Thousands Trapped in Sri Lanka's Conflict

Sri Lanka's army says it has now cornered the rebels into an area of about 8 square kilometers in the country's northeast. A defense spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella, told VOA the government believes top rebel leaders, including Tamil Tiger chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran, are in the area. Meanwhile, thousands more civilians fled the rapidly shrinking war zone Wednesday. Humanitarian aid groups and US lawmakers in Washington have expressed urgent concern about the trapped civilians.
