How you can ensure that you are protected as halal consumers under the labeling and consumer protection law.
in the uk it is not an offence to sell haram meat, however it is an offence to mis-label non halal products with halal claims.
in the UK Halal meat is clearly defined both in the  Guidance food note issues, which is included in the Practice Guidance to the Food Law Code of Practice (England).and in English law that governs slaughter of all animals .
as Religious slaughter without any form of stunning.

 english law is simple if you ask for a watch no trader is going sell you mobile phone with a watch label on it you dont need any certification body to advise  you different as no certifier is  above the Law.
Prophetic halal is non stun ask for it by name, and you will be protected and if you think you are being sold mislabeled halal meat report them to the local authorities

Labeling is regulated to protect consumers who should have the correct information to make confident and informed food choices based on diet, allergies,  personal taste or cost.

Everyone has the right to know that the food they have bought matches the description given on the label. Part of Food standard agencies role is to help prevent mislabeling or misleading descriptions of foods. 

If mislabeling is done deliberately it is criminal fraud, whether it poses a food safety threat or not.  
Falsely describing, advertising or presenting food is an offence and there are many laws that help protect consumers against dishonest labeling and misleading descriptions. 

When shopping for meat and poultry ask for Religious slaughtered meat in the prophetic method of non stun.
