Starting off the weekend on Saturday testing, had a new alignment set-up that I was keen to try out seeing as I had 4 degrees camber on the Passenger side (not bad) and 6.5!! on the drivers!! All went to pot though as one of the strut bolts was stripped and the camber just wallowed about when I was out on track... Put it into PCR for some last minute adjustments before race day, I noticed the rear wheel seemed to have alot of positive camber when I put it in, sure enough bent rear axle! Que some frantic Sunday morning repairs to get another axle fitting, literally seconds before we went out on track for qualifying!! Any amount of thanks to John Revhead Balfour and the boys for providing the axle & helping out with the swap as it definitely wouldn't have been possible to do myself! Onto qualifying, literally did enough just to get out there to get into the race. Had a wet set-up in the dry, spongey brakes as I didn't have time to bleed them after the axle change, and 55psi in the front COLD (should be around 23...) So being able to get within 2 tenths of my fastest time I was very happy and excited as to what I could do with a more set-up car! Race 1, started 5th in class, got a good start and was right up behind 3rd and 4th. Stayed like that trying to find a clean way past for most of the race. Finally managed to pick off John for 4th, almost caught myself out by almost taking out Jim in the process as I broke so late! But got in behind him and managed to get by into 3rd with a few laps to go! Tyres went completely off at this point so I had to defend defend defend to keep him behind. I got lucky out of clarks as I got an awful drive but with the thanks of a slight push from Jim he got me going again! Finished 3rd in class and 1st in the XR2 Newcomers! Also smashed my PB by half a second and was 1/100th off the Newcomers lap record that John set in that race! Well happy with that after how my morning went! UNFORTUNATELY I got a DQ as a advance retarder vacuum hose was disconnected (not to my knowledge), which talking to a few of the boys is a disadvantage to me anyway... But it's in the regs that it has to be connected and it wasn't so not much I could do about it... Gutted.
