Hispanic Voters Favor Obama But Turnout Is Key

Hispanics are now the largest minority in the United States. They number about 40 million. But they represent only about nine percent of the electorate. Many Hispanic residents are not citizens and a large percentage of those who are citizens are under voting age. As VOA's Greg Flakus reports from Houston [Texas], polls of Hispanic voters indicate strong support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. But their impact will depend on the Hispanic turnout on Election Day.
