Wednesday marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Asia is estimated to have the largest number of people in extreme poverty. According to a 2016 World Bank report, of the 766 million people who live under the poverty line of nearly two US dollars a day, about a third live in South Asia, and nearly one in 10 in East Asia and the Pacific. In Southeast Asia, the Philippines has its own challenges in the fight against poverty. One of them is hunger.
