Diu, Daman and Diu, Dec 2 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated what organisers claim to be Asia's longest beach festival, Festa de Diu, in Diu. President Mukherjee applauded the efforts of the administration of Daman and Diu union territory to promote tourism and expected a further increase in the tourist footfall. Last year, 17 lakh (1.7 million) tourists visited Diu and with the constant support of the administration, this is likely to catch 25 lakh (2.5 million) in this year. Various cultural programmes, including classical and folk dances, were the main attraction of the inaugural ceremony. Renowned Indian classical singer, Shubha Mudgal, also performed on the opening day. In a bid to promote Diu as a vacation spot, the administration of Daman and Diu union territory in collaboration with Ferriswheel Entertainment Pvt Ltd (FEPL) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has organised the beach festival which will end on February 16, 2016. Mukherjee hoped the connectivity with Gujarat will boast tourism at both the places. The enhanced air connectivity with Air India commencing operations will give a major boost to tourism opportunities in the territory. I feel that Diu can become the tourism gateway for southern Gujarat and Diu-Somnath-Gir are a natural tourism circuit. Festa de Diu is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors, offering them luxury services and adventure sports. The festival is offering 60 luxury beach tents, spas, five-star category restaurants, adventure sports like bungee jumping, zip lining, hot air balloon etc., community outreach workshops, carnival, jam sessions, concerts, fashion shows and much more. The event will be divided into 12 weekends over 77 days with each artist performing on every weekend. Being a small island territory blessed with nature, Daman and Diu attracts lots of tourists every year and tourism is a key driver of the economy and source of livelihood of the union territory.

It’s a massive art and music festival, and for once, it’s not in Goa. ‘Asia’s longest beach festival’ kicks off on the sands of Diu on 1 December 2015. The 77-day Festa de Diu goes on all the way till 15 February 2016 and is packed with concerts, carnivals, fashion shows, jam sessions, stand-up comedy, adventure sports, beach tents, fine dining, spas and more.

Expect 140 live events by over 300 artists, with each week having a dedicated theme: Diu Liberation Week, Music Week, Children’s Week, Festive Week, Fitness Week, India Week, Party Week, Art Week, Comedy & Theatre Week, Patriotic Week, Youth Week and DIU Special Week.
