Following a screening of locally produced DON'T TALK TO IRENE (2017), tradespeople and crew members from the production will talk about their roles in the film industry, the training they've received and the skill sets they've developed, and their career journeys.

This event is co-presented by TIFF and Skills for Change.

Alice Kim is a Toronto-based writer/director whose work explores themes of race, feminism, and belonging. She currently writes while working as an assistant director and has worked on different types of projects including the feature film DON'T TALK TO IRENE, Netflix’s television show SLASHER: Season 2, as well as an IMAX large-format digital film short, XL-OUTER WORLDS, which is set to play in 2019 at the Cinesphere. She is currently working as 2nd assistant director on an independent feature film. 


Kendra Terpenning (Costume Designer) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts  in Costume Design from the University of Victoria. Kendra made the leap to working full time in film in 2014. Her recent costume design feature film credits include THROUGH BLACK SPRUCE (dir. Don McKellar), GOALIE (dir. Adriana Maggs), DON'T TALK TO IRENE (dir. Pat Mills), PYEWACKET (dir. Adam McDonald), CLARA (dir. Askash Sherman), and THE DEBOUT (dir. Connor Gaston), which won Best Feature at the 2016 Leo Awards. Now based in Toronto, Kendra divides her time between Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.


Zachary Brun is a multifaceted freelancer in the film industry, who has worked on a myriad of union & non-union films and tv productions, since 2015. He has 15 years experience in the field of construction, and graduated from the Humber College’s Electrical Construction Maintenance program in 2012. Zachary has worked on productions from Warner Brothers, NBC Universal, MGM, The Family Channel, CBC and held a variety positions including: an electric grip & dolly grip assistant, rigger, cast & picture car driver, genny op, and on locations as a Production Assistant and Location Support Personnel. On his list of accomplishments is being a part of such phenomenal production crews including: DON'T TALK TO IRENE, ORPHAN BLACK, AMERICAN GODS, THE GOOD WITCH, as well as the well known adaptation of the Stephen King novel, IT.
