After struggling in the first two sessions of the match, India came right back in the final session, picking up 6 wickets, restricting England to 285 for 9 at stumps on day one of the first Test. Ashwin’s bowling was the highlight of the day as he was the most effective bowler for the team by taking 4 wickets. Mohammed Shami also took two crucial wickets. England were going strong with 163 for three on the board at Lunch. Things went south for England after Joe Root got run out by Virat Kohli. Jonny Bairstow was the next to be taken down by Umesh Yadav. Jos Buttler too got dismissed on the first ball he faced. Ben Stokes hit some boundaries but gave a simple catch to Ashwin. Adil Rashid and Sam Curran built a 35-run partnership for the eighth wicket but post Rashid’s departure the tail did not had much to offer. However, Sam Curran and James Anderson are at the crease for England with India still to bat.
