Three killed in Yunnan landslide

Three people have been confirmed dead after a landslide buried a road in Funing County of southwest China's Yunnan province. Nine people have been rescued so far. The disaster happened at about 7 p.m. on Saturday at a village in Funing County. The landslide buried a road, some 30 km away from the county seat. Officials say three bodies have been found. According to geologists, the landslide is triggered by several factors, including steep terrain, weak geological conditions, road construction and continuous downpours. SOUNDBITE(CHINESE)WU JIMING, Researcher of Yunnan Resources Department "From August 10th to 20th, continuous downpours hit Funing County. According to local monitoring station, the rain level reached 171 mm. This is the most important factors leading to the landslide."
