I first saw Mickey huddled in the back of a dead car, one eye swollen to the point of near rupture. I netted him. He was part of a huge and tragic colony, in a junkyard neighborhood where nobody cared about anything and neighbors fought with one another. The cats and kids were largely neglected. One kind old man fed the discarded cats. I went in to get them all fixed. Mickey had not experienced love. In his life. Only suffering. I had his bad eye removed and introduced him to human kindness. He lives in Canada now, with a former clown, who teaches handicapped kids. He's happy and loved at last.
