The word commitment means a lot to different men. Some men have never come face- to- face with the word itself, so it is difficult for anyone to let alone that person to stay or be committed to something meaningful.   

When it comes to a serious relationship, a woman that is looking for a long term relationship wants her man to show a level of commitment in that relationship. That is vital at that point on-wards for her and their relationship. 

What can happen sometimes; is that her partner may not have a problem with commitment but he may not ready for that next step towards what she need from him. So, she can miscalculate it to mean that he isn't that commitment type of guy. 

He might just be going through a certain phase that he needs to deal with, e.g. it could be that he had a sad childhood experience and every now and then it plays in his mind, so emotionally he isn't ready. It also could be that he is in a certain financial place where he thinks that he need to get that right before getting deeper in that same relationship. He might just simply isn't ready to have children or get married and want to spend more time and grow together as a couple. 

So, there are a lot of things to factor in sometimes in these cases. So spend the time to know that type of man you are dating or in a relationship with. Ask him a question about commitment itself rather than assuming it. He might be coming from a household where a commitment wasn't a part of that system; he also might have friends that see commitment as a big deal, so he might just copy that lifestyle. 

But talk to your man and see what is behind is fear of commitment in general. You can make a difference in his life in that department and the relationship can benefits greatly from it in the long run!
