In this department store there was also a very old lift that had been modernized in the 1960s by A G Stevens. A member of staff told me that this used to be a rope operated lift (I couldn't work out if this meant that that it was a man powered lift, or meant you pull on the rope to power the lift like pre-1888 otis's and LHP lifts). This lift was modernized in the 1960s by A G Stevens & co ltd. The member of staff told me that I could not ride the lift as it no longer passed healf and safty for passengers. So instead, here is a video of their crappy cheap Otis branded as Express Evans. http://beno.org.uk
