This is an attempt at a wormhole.  3 concentric, flared cylinders with UV animation and gradients for the transparency, similar to the afterburner effect.  For some reason it creates a weird hairline artifact through the X-axis, and some texture distortion that would be more typical of on-the-fly cylinder-mapping (this is UV unwrapped).  Neither of these artifacts appear in Layout, only during the final render.  Not sure what to do about it yet.

UPDATE: The X-axis artifact disappears when the camera is moved away from the X plane.  And the other texture noise seems to be Z-fighting.  When each wormhole layer is rendered separately, there is no noise.

UPDATE2: Fixed in a later version by breaking out 3 separate passes for the wormhole and compositing in Fusion.
