DSLR Controller is an Android App that works with Canon DSLRs to let you use your Android device as an external monitor and remote. To give you full control over your camera without having to be behind the camera This app has been a godsend to help me make sure my main talking shots are in-focus and well exposed. So here’s how I use it. You’ll need The DSLR Controller App. An Android Device - check compatibility list but I’ve had no problems with any of my devices. An OTG (On the Go) cable A Mini (not micro) USB cable And of Course a Canon DSLR. I’m using a Canon EOS 60D Setup is extremely simple. Buy and download the app to your compatible android device. I personally use this Nexus 7 almost exclusively for this purpose now. Connect the OTG cable to your device. Connect your mini USB cable to your camera. And finally connect your mini USB cable to the OTG cable. That’s it for setup! The you device will sense when the camera is connected (presuming the camera is on) and prompt you on which app to use. I’ve already told it to always use DSLR Controller. And there you go! The app and camera are synced. I can see exactly what the camera sees hear on my tablet with just a slight delay. I can now use this just as I would the LCD on my camera in order to focus in on myself. Maybe boost ISO 1 or two stops if I’m under exposed. You can also change Aperture and Shutter Speed, but I typically shoot wide open at 2.8 with this lens and shutter speed is generally best left at 1 over ~2x times your Frame Rate. So 1/50 for 24fps and 1/60 for 30fps. So there you go! You should now be able to set up a shot of yourself for you videos and ensure you’re in-focus, well exposed and generally not derpy looking. Don’t be like this guy!!!! But wait. There’s more. Some of you are saying well that’s all and good Ballistic. But it’s too bad that app isn’t free! I personally saw the price of this app as a very cheap investment to ensure that my videos were always as good as they can be. But… in the spirit of giving I’m going to help 1 of my great subs out hook them up with a $25 Google Play Gift card so that they can get DSLR Controller and probably another 2-3 apps of their choice!
