Gotten my hands on a Gouf now. The Gouf has ridiculously high melee attack so it's one of the few units it's actually worth it to use melee attacks with. It's hurt slightly by not having a primary ranged weapon, but the sub weapon works until you upgrade it and can afford it. Then you can fire both the primary machine gun and the finger guns at the same time for some solid ranged damage, on this melee based unit. You just have to watch your ammo. But the Gouf is a very solid and reliable unit that you can use until you get the Gouf Custom, which is even better.

Another thing to watch out for while playing this game. Enemies come in from outside the range of the map, as shown by the orange line on the radar. They can move in and out of this line as much as they want, but it's an invisible wall for you. This can make it hard to hit enemies that have much farther range than you do and make you stop unexpectedly by running into the invisible wall, which can leave you open. So be conscious of that when playing.
