This is a Manx tune played at a wedding for a slow dance performed by the bride and groom, maid of honour and best man. It is a slow dance performed largely balancing on one leg for appreciable lengths of time. It was an exercise to prove to the wedding guests that the four principals were sober enough to manage it without falling over. It is difficult enough to keep your balance in this dance when sober, so if they were drunk, there must have been great hilarity as they were bound to lose balance at best, fall over at worst!
