Migrants wait at Bosnia's border with Croatia, heavy police presence

(26 Oct 2018) Dozens of migrants, including children, camped in a field in north-west Bosnia, next to the country's border with Croatia, despite heavy police presence on both sides of the frontier. The migrants hope to pressure Croatia, a member of the European Union, to open its borders and let them travel north. Bosnian police said on Friday the situation was calm, and added they expected to persuade migrants to leave the border area by the end of the day. As previous migration routes to Western Europe from the Balkans have closed over the past year, the trail has shifted toward Bosnia and left thousands of people stuck in the country.
