Every year, the city of Koga, Japan has a festival where teams build gigantic lanterns and fight them against others by bashing them together. The city builds a giant wooden cage to enclose the fighting, with the competitors on the inside and the spectators on the out. The goal is to get the other team's lantern caught in flames, and the team with the final intact, still lit lantern is the winner. In the pit, teams use support beams to gain momentum and ram their lantern into another, all the while being pelted by wax and other debris from the collateral damage. Its like the Kite Runner of Japan, and its awesome. This video was shot on December 6, 2014.
