Stephen Hogg aka 'Soulfinder' was our feature interview last week and has been one of our favourite producers over the last several years.

 The Irish producer has appeared on Eelke Kleijn's 'Outside The Box' imprint, the legendary Deep Recordings and Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's much revered Mistiquemusic imprint. His impossibly dreamy and richly textured productions at times defy genre as they transport the listener through a wide range of moods and sounds. This week sees Soulfinder making his debut on one of Russia's premier progressive house imprints Underground City Music with his 'Footprints' EP. 

The lead track 'Footprints' begins with some great drum elements that provide an excellent shuffling effect. A sequence of softly textured stabs slowly fades in along with a nice synth hook. The elements all have such a wonderfully soft texture that's it just a pleasure to listen to. A cool sequence of wobbly bells soon presents itself and this carries the composition to the breakdown. Here a selection of aquatic sounding bells is showcased and some mild tension is created with an escalating synth. The really captivating element of the track though is the overall sound design, it's really exceptional. Much of the stuff you here today is quite crunchy and way over processed but this has an element of class and smoothness to it. Outstanding stuff from Soulfinder.

The companion piece 'Natural Wonders' begins with a guitar like hook and an effervescent synth that brings with it a cool hypnotic effect. This is one of the better intro tracks we've heard recently, the soundscape carries itself for over 2 minutes before it's all stripped away in favour of some tough, shuffling beats and clattering drums. This is very reminiscent of something Sasha would have started his sets with not so long ago. All the melodic elements from the intro eventually work their way back in over the tracks groovy foundation for what results in a super smooth finish. Both cuts are outstanding here and it's one of Underground City Music's best releases yet.
