Just having a look at what they are trying to say something is something! using Earth-based radio telescopes, scientists bounced radar signals off of passing asteroid 2011 UW158 to create images for this animation showing the rocky body's fast rotation.
2011 UW158, is 452 meters by 1,011 meters in size and passed within an estimated 2.4 million kilometers of Earth on July 19, 2015 according to the Goldstone Radar Observatory. That's about six times the distance from Earth to the moon.
The composition of the asteroid was determined using spectrometers, which can measure the various wavelengths of light reflected from an object. It is estimated to be carrying up to 90 million tons of platinum in its core, as well as other rare and precious materials.
Because of 2011 UW158's close proximity to Earth, it has been proposed as a target for future robotic mining missions. According to some estimates, it may contain precious metal ore and other minerals worth from $300 billion, to an incredible $5.4 trillion.
