UNC Leader Wins Defamation Case Against Jack Warner

UNC Political Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has won her defamation case against Jack Warner's Sunshine Newspaper. On December 4th 2015, the newspaper produced a front-page article regarding an alleged letter from a US Presidential candidate stating that Mrs. Persad-Bissessar was to be extradited to the US for financial impropriety. On Wednesday, Justice David Harris ruled that damages would be awarded for libel, inclusive of aggravation and exemplary damages and costs for the claimant. Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said a figure was not given for the damages as the court has ordered an assessment. The UNC Leader said she is happy her name has been cleared and described the article as outrageous. Judge Harris also ordered an injunction to prevent the defendant from further publishing the allegation.
