I wish that the songs were not so damn relevant today. This is a song I wrote, fifteen years ago. Written from the perspective of those victims of mass genocide, who had to fight for the right to exist. I decided to record and release the song now, dedicated to the incredibly strong and peaceful souls currently fighting the DAPL, at Standing Rock, in North Dakota. All proceeds go to benefit Standing Rock, and the #NoDAPL efforts. Gill ------------------- LYRICS: I am a man, as you can see I welcome you, you lie to me I share with you all that I have You take all that you can grab Who have I wronged? What have I done? You speak of peace, but show us none Land of the free, unless you're me I call you friend. You call me Indian. I am a man, and I was free Before you came to save me from me You burn my home, then shake my hand And push my children from their land I watch in fear, your numbers grow And one-by-one destroy the buffalo You're blind with pride, oh can't you see Freedom is free, if you'd just let it be Break me, take me Tell me what you need And inside, we sing Free me, save me I know what you need Hear the Lakota sing Different century, same old lies We see your father's poison behind your eyes Break your promises, rape the land To put another dollar in your hand I am a man, down on my knees My way of life stripped from me I'll learn your speak, I'll learn to lie I'll watch my brothers burn alive I'll cut my hair, I'll wear your clothes But whisper strong, down Grandmother's road With fortitude, my heart grows wings And I will fly, as the Lakota sing Break me, take me Tell me what you need And inside, we sing Free me, save me I know what you need Break me, take me Kill me if you please And inside, we sing Free me, save me I know what you need Let the Shoshone sing Let the Cahuilla sing Let the Cherokee sing Let the Navajo sing Let the Apache sing --------------- • Danny Hamilton Facebook Page • http://www.facebook.com/DannyHamiltonFanpage • Official Danny Hamilton Website • http://www.DannyHamilton.com •
