4th track from "Shotgun Angel" (1977). Daniel Amos almost out-Eagles the Eagles in this beautiful yacht rock song about the little kid in each of us—frightened of the monsters under our bed—and the heavenly Father that welcomes us into his warm embrace.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

P.S. - About those monsters. They're real! Whether we're talking metaphorically about the dangers all around us or literally about demonic entities that sometimes appear to people in different forms, they can be overwhelmingly powerful. And it's not advisable to fight them alone. This song addresses those who have sought aid in a false religion ("you believe in the words of some buried prophet") but find that, in the moment of truth, there is no one that can help you like Jesus—and, of course, his Dad!

If you haven’t heard of the band Daniel Amos, you’re probably not alone. One of the pioneers of the Christian music scene for nearly forty years, they are now virtually ignored by today’s mainstream Christian music industry. Through the years though they have maintained a following of fans whose loyalty would be akin to that seen by fans of Phish or Grateful Dead.

Daniel Amos' Shotgun Angel is their transitional album between country and the more straight-ahead rock of Horrendous Disc. A comparison with the Eagles is unavoidable, especially on the title track and "Father's Arms."

Alright, okay, oh yeah
Keep your cool and don't hurt nobody
It all lies within you, so the dying say
And you believe in the words of some buried prophet
 Alright, okay, oh yeah
They nod their heads in unanimous approval
And it makes you feel good till the night wind calls
And the darkness comes a-whispering down the halls
And you're a scared little child who dreams he falls

Come fall in your father's arms
 Fall in your father's arms
 Fall in your father's arms
 Alright, oh yeah, uh-huh

You turn, you run, you hide
A friend comes bid you travel
And he smiles like an angel but behind the eyes
Lurks the door of the death house and the big surprise
 Alright, okay, oh yeah
You assure them while composure is breaking
And they watch as you run then you hit the wall
Slump to the ground and begin to crawl
To the edge of the cliff where you start to fall

Come fall in your father's arms
 Fall in your father's arms
 Fall in your father's arms
 Alright, oh yeah, uh-huh

 Father's arms waiting
 To carry you, man
 Through all the changing
 Back home again
