Chris Wolf, the Research VP for Gartner, discusses the advantages of virtualizing SAP. Clients are very interested in moving SAP to virtual machines because it makes scheduled maintenance easier and allows live migrate virtual machines to hardware for easier hardware maintenance. Business continuity and disaster recovery is far simpler when My SAP workloads run in virtual machines. Another benefit is that cloning and snapshots of virtual machines can be done which allows test patches. If there is a problem with an upgrade, it can be rolled back in seconds.
