A hand-raised female Burns' Silk Moth (Hemileuca burnsi) is used to attract wild males. She releases a pheromone scent which is detectable by the males from several miles away. This is why many male moths have such large antennae. She is in a small cage in the back seat of the car, and a swarm of males have come looking for her! At the end of the day, one male will be allowed inside to mate with her. She'll stop releasing scent and a few hours later she'll begin laying her eggs.
