When the state's transit budget gets cut, where do the cuts fall? The Metropolitan Council opposes a bill that would rob it to fund transit in suburbs that run their own transit systems. The losers in the bill would be those served by the metro transit system such as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Blaine, Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Lakeville, Bloomington and St. Louis Park. Bill Sponsor Michael Beard (R- Shakopee) says the Metropolitan Council's share of revenue dedicated to transit has grown from 21.5% to 36%, while suburban "opt-out" transit providers have seen their funding stay at a flat 3.74%.
