This song, written by Anne Lister is another request from one of my fans who recommended it to me but was unable to find a complete version of it on youtube. Consequently I had to send off to a website in the USA and buy a CD by Brendan Nolan called Song Brook (a worthwhile purchase by the way.) It arrived through the post yesterday, and having listened to it I knew that though it would give me some problems, I had to learn this song. The story is loosely based on the Greek Myth about Icarus, son of Daedalus a master engineer who had been commissioned to build a labyrinth for the king of Crete in which was imprisoned a monster known as the Minotaur, half man, half bull. Having designed and built said labyrinth, Daedalus and his son Icarus were prevented from leaving the island, so the engineer designed and built wings so that they could escape by flying away. However, Icarus became too adventurous and despite his father's warning, flew too near the sun which melted the wax which held the feathers together and so plummeted to his death in the sea. According to the myth, Daedalus himself flew on and did escape.
The song does not tell the story in quite this way, but is based on it, hence the title Icarus. 
This is my own interpretation of this song and the chords are those I have worked out for this and may well not coincide with anyone else's.
