So there seems to be some pretty passionate guys and gals out there who value the audio quality off the speakers and external headset / speaker quality on the Cherry Mobile Orbit. So we decided to make a video comparing the audio quality between a couple of devices - basically the HTC Desire and a laptop, to the budget Android dual-SIM phone.

We take it through a test of its built-in speakers, then an external amplified portable paper speaker (which we took a quick look on another video), and also plug it into the THX certified Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround speakers to see how they perform.

We're not exactly sure if the camera can pick up the subtleties of the audio quality differences, but in our findings we think the volume of the devices on their own are quite similar. The HTC Desire has a bit more depth and quality, but the volumes are almost the same. On the amplified portable speaker, the Orbit seems louder, but tinnier. And finally, on the high quality speakers, nothing beats the PC for bass reproduction and lack of noise, but the HTC Desire gives a decent crisp sound while the Orbit shows a lot more quality loss and sounds more like AM radio-ish. (Or maybe FM.)

But that's about it for sound quality. On the built-in speakers, they sound pretty much the same, on portable speakers they're comparable, and on high quality speakers we'd rather stick to our PC.

Seriously though, we think if you're after quality audio, then you're not looking for a smartphone, especially in the budget line. That's not to say that budget smartphones shouldn't care about audio quality, though. And for that case, the Orbit is below average.
