In this video, Dr. George B. N. Ayittey honors Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu for his work in ending apartheid in South Africa, at the Independent Institute's 2008 Gala Reception and Dinner Presentation of the Alexis de Tocqueville Awards.

Desmond M. Tutu is Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town and former head of the Anglican Church in South Africa. In 1984, Desmond Tutu was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, "not only as a gesture of support to him and to the South African Council of Churches of which he is leader, but also to all individuals and groups in South Africa who, with their concern for human dignity, fraternity and democracy, incite the admiration of the world."

George B. N. Ayittey, a native of Ghana, is Senior Fellow at the Independent Institute, former Distinguished Economist in Residence in the Department of Economics at American University and President of the Free Africa Foundation.
