Gold fields to slash 1,560 jobs

Gold Fields is the latest miner to announce job cuts in an effort to restore its operations. Mines Minister Gwede Mantashe is not happy, saying the miner is not following processes outlined in the law. The gold producer says it’ll cut 1,560 jobs at its South Deep mine, which has been reporting losses. 70% of these will be permanent workers, while the rest are contractors. The move comes just a week after Impala Platinum announced plans to cut 13,000 jobs. Gold Fields says the planned job cuts will be done according to the book. Courtesy DStv403
