On Thursday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m., the University of Oregon in Portland hosted "Free Culture: Creating Copyright and Copyright Creation," a free public event exploring the current state of copyright law and its impact on creative work. UO law alumnus Peter Shaver and members of Portlands electropop trio YACHT-- John Bechtolt, Claire Evans, and Mike Merrill--shared their perspectives in a presentation and panel discussion.

Audience members had the opportunity to participate in a creative re-authoring of copyright law in real time. Refreshments, courtesy of Portland's New Seasons Market and New Old Lompoc Brewery, were served. The event was sponsored by the UO Library and Learning Commons, UO Academic Affairs, and the UO Cultural Forum.

The session is one in a series of Thursday evening events hosted by UO Portland during July, with themes centering creativity, sustainability, and the urban environment.
