What a moment for Faroese football!

A country of 48.000 people - and no more than around 1000 available boys at the age between 17 and 21, never meant football players, triumphed against by far the biggest nation of Europe...

Jóan Símun Edmundsson of B68 Toftir, only 17 and a rising star of Faroese football, scored a spectacular header after only 52 seconds... A great collective display and some stunning saves by Jóan Pauli Jacobsen left those overpaid Russian profies in frustration and disgrace.

Another interesting aspect was that the Russian coach, Igor Kolyvanov, and his assistant, Sergey Kiryakov, not only did play in the famous 5-2 victory over the Faroes in 1995, but they also scored decisive 2-2 and 3-2 goals back then. Many years later, the Faroese youth took a sweet revenge on them!
