MIAMI VALLEY -- The Ledy family now knows the importance of getting your furnace checked before it gets cold. 

"We kinda figured something was going wrong around 9 or 10'oclock Sunday night," James Ledy said.
 
They were having a birthday party for his wife and when everyone started to leave it started to get cold. James says their heating problems went downhill from there. "By the time Monday morning rolled came it was really really cold in the house about 41 degrees," he said. 
 
Johny Constandinidis, The Furnace Man, is a heating and cooling expert who he says situations like this can be avoided. 

"No one thinks about their air conditioner until we get the real real cold weather or real real hot weather," Johny said. 
 
The Furnace man says it starts with preventative maintenance. 

"As a rule you change your oil in your car every three thousands guess what before the heating season you have to tune up your furnace," Johny said. 
 
James Ledy and his 3-year-old daughter could only sit under a blanket by the space heater as the repairs were made but he knows the feeling. He had furnace problems last year.  

"Last year we had just moved in here and the furnace went out in that place over there but my father-in-law was able to come over and fix that, it wasn't a big problem," James said.
 
The Ledy furnace was a minor fix, too, and they had heat within an hour of his visit and the Furnace Man says there are other things you can do try to avoid furnace issues too. 

"You need to change your air filters every three months to make sure your unit is getting proper air flow," Johny said.
