When we understand biblical customs through an eastern perspective, we see that traditional greetings could take a great deal of time. Jesus Christ was kind and gracious, yet in this time of urgency he instructed his disciples to move quickly. For us, the example is not to waste time on useless, meaningless things, but to get moving and live life being obedient to the will of the Lord.
