Communities are grappling with the question of what it means to be inclusive and equitable. When conversations about race stall, it’s important to have tools and skills to keep us moving forward. Design thinking offers a framework that helps us apply concepts of equity in our daily lives. Intercultural competency is needed not only to remain relevant in an increasingly globalized society, but also to sustain the effectiveness of organizations whether in business, nonprofit, or other sectors.  Naaima Khan is a manager with the Bush Foundation’s Community Innovation team. She manages grant portfolios, helps develop
the foundation’s relationships, identifies investment opportunities, and consults with nonprofits and grantees. Naaima has played a key role in the foundation’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work. She co-chaired a team charged with applying an equity lens to grantee selection and is a member of the foundation’s internal equity team. She holds a master’s in public policy from the University of Texas at Austin and serves on the board of the Islamic Resource Group (IRG) and the Eastern Twin Cities Islamic Center.
