MCI Chinese Bridge Music Competition (Part 2/2)

This is my submission in the MCI Chinese Bridge Music Competition.

Mo Li Hua is probably the most famous Chinese folk song, and is even said to be China's unofficial second national anthem. It is about the Jasmin Flower - how beautiful it looks, and how wonderful the fragrance.

In my arrangement of this melody, I sought to combine the sound of the East with the sound of the West. While the backbone is played on an acoustic guitar, with plenty of harmonics and percussion included, the added Chinese instruments, Dizi 笛子 (bamboo flute) and Ruan 阮 (sort of a lute), are the connecting tissue in this cultural bridge. Both Chinese instruments have been bought in music shops in Beijing during my travels.
