BMW 2002 tii at 24 Hours of Lemons Summit Point Capitol Offense, June 2011. After a ludicrous Friday and Saturday of putting the car together AT THE TRACK (technically, in a field), and getting the Kugelfischer injection system working after the car sat for over 10 years in another field, the car made it onto the track for the last lap on Saturday. No video was taken, the car didn't cross the start/finish line twice, and we didn't have the transponder on the car, so no laps were recorded for Saturday. But there was much rejoicing that the car was actually running, and we wrapped up Saturday, ready for Sunday's racing.

Saturday evening, based on a squishy brake pedal, we decided that the brake master cylinder was faulty, and would need to be replaced on Sunday morning. We were too damned tired to replace it Saturday night, as we'd been working straight through from Wednesday night, and it was now Saturday night. As the race didn't restart until Sunday at noon, we planned to get an early start on Sunday morning, and wrap up the M/C fix in a jiffy. Replacing a brake master cylinder can be done in well under an hour, including bleeding the brakes. Turns out that it took us over 8 hours. First, we found a "local" supplier (about an hour away) that had a tii brake master in stock in their warehouse. A gopher was dispatched to retrieve the new M/C while we removed the faulty M/C. The gopher returned with the tii M/C box, which contained an M/C that belonged to a Ford truck. Unbelievable. Fortunately, we had a spare non-tii M/C, and we quickly installed it. Then we expended 5+ hours trying to get the brake lines connected to the M/C. We simply couldn't get one of the hard brake lines to thread into the M/C.

Anyway, this video shows the car going out onto the track for its second time during the weekend. Once again, the car didn't cross the start/finish line twice, so no laps were recorded for the entire weekend.

End result: we earned the coveted Lemons "We got screwed" award.
