I am fixing up the Mil-Rite chainsaw lumber mill I recently got so that I can start cutting my own lumber on our homestead.

Part of becoming self sufficient is to use the resources on our own land to help pay the cost of living. We have 18 acres of forested land to use.

I want to start making my own lumber to build things for sale on our homestead.

This mill was not used in 40 to 50 years and needed some loving and care to get it back into operation. The chain was rusty and most of the links did not move. But it was too hot to work outside much so I worked on the chain. It took me many hours but I got the chain links freed up and moving well.

Then I cleaned the chain in carburetor cleaner to remove all the oil and dirt. Then I put the chain into a tub with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. This I put in the sun to heat up and work.

I was very much surprised to find it bubbling away when I returned later. The vinegar was certainly working on something.

Later, maybe after two hours, I tried using a brass bristle brush on the chain and I was surprised to find the rust fell clean away with ease.

So I wire brushed the entire chain on both sides. Then I washed it in water to get the vinegar off. And then I oiled the chain up again. It looks very good for its age.

I had to go into town to get a master link though so I could get the chain back onto the sawmill. But it was getting way too hot. It was well over 100 degrees outside my neighbors tell me. So I called it a day.

While the chain was soaking in the vinegar I worked in the off grid wood shop for a while. I wanted to work on electronics and wood projects. So I made a mix of the two and built a radiant energy Bedini motor using a dual coil SSG circuit which I made out of all scrap parts many years ago.

I had an old roller skate wheel which I got for free long ago. These wheels had never been used but they were already old when I got them. The bearings are a little stiff but they work. I figured I can work them and loosen them up with time.

I used some scrap wood to make the base plate and feet.

I was happy to find that this old circuit fired right up and is working nicely for me now.

The coils are out of an old laser printer which I had taken apart for that purpose. And the rest of the electronics were recycled as well.

This is a fully recycled parts Bedini Simplified School Girl motor with dual power coils. And it is currently restoring a badly sulfated lead acid battery in a portable car jump starter box.
