All told, 70 classes were contested during the week of the 44th Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska, with the first 37 championships earned on Tuesday and Wednesday, the remainder on Thursday and Friday. Unofficially, more than 1,300 drivers from throughout the United States participated in the 2016 affair, widely considered to be the largest motorsports event in the world. The previous high-water mark for the Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals was set in 2015 with 1,228 racers pounding around the two, twisty courses laid out across taxiways of Lincoln Airpark.

Intermittent rain showers shook the competition throughout the week, forcing some to rely on early runs, while other heats saw drying conditions, giving advantage to the last drivers to take their third runs. This was evident when 86 C Street competitors took to the West Course during Heat 2 on Wednesday. The first runs were wet, but as more cars took to the course, a dry line developed, allowing for faster times. Four of the last six cars to take to the course made up the top four winners, with Daniel McCelvey claiming the championship by .058-second over Julian Garfield.

To cap off the Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals, dark clouds rolled in, rain pummeled the venue and lightning shut down courses just as Heat 5 began on Friday. Competition was delayed for two-hours as officials waited for the risk of lightning to pass. Competition had started in the East Course, allowing 34 competitors to record dry times. On West Course, competition had yet to begin, giving drivers a more level playing field on the now wet surface.

The Solo Cup was awarded to the Berry family: parents Tom and Theresa, and their three daughters Christine, Heather and Lisa for their outstanding contributions to the Solo events program. To honor the driver who has consistently demonstrated excellence behind the wheel, and an exemplary degree of sportsmanship, dedication and unselfishness, Jinx Jordan was named the 2016 Driver of Eminence. The Johnson Spirit of the Sport was awarded to Eric and Laurie Hyman to recognize the Solo community members who bring the spirit of fun to their fellow participants. Only awarded for the second year, the Dick Berger Perseverance Award went to Rocky Entriken, in recognition of a love for Solo no matter the finishing position. Nicholas Chu was named Solo Rookie of the Year for his 2nd place finish in Street Touring R in his first year at the Tire Rack Solo Nationals. The Solo Driver of the Year is the competitor who has demonstrated exceptional skill or has overcome major obstacles to produce an outstanding performance at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championship and was awarded to Cindy Duncan, F Street Ladies National Champion.
