3M ESR http://www.netbooknews.com Battery technology doesn't seem to be improving so its up the the rest of the components to draw less power so we can enjoy longer battery life. The display by far is the component that draws the most power, so a low power consumption display technology is something that we are all keen to get into out phone's tablets and mobile devices ASAP. 3M has comeout with the Vikuiti ESR Enhanced Specular Reflector film, which is currently available from distributors, so it shouldn't be too much longer before we see it in our devices. This film is an ultra-high reflectivity, mirror-like optical enhancement film, this doesn't mean that it acts like a mirror, it means it makes use of the light to brigten the screen. Vikuiti Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR) is a multilayer optical film that is used as a highly efficient light guide or bulb cavity reflector. It is a 100% polymer film with a reflectivity of 98.5% across the visible spectrum. Since it makes better use of the light the display uses less power to achiever higher brightness. If you want to see it in action, we caught it in a side by side comparison with today's display technology at Display Taiwan 2011.
