Parasnath a decade and a half ago was a sleepy station on the Howrah Mughal Sarai Grand Chord, overseen by three hills with the Parasnath Hills visible in the eastern horizon. The station was graced by a handful of trains then, that too, mostly at unearthly hours in the night. The platforms were low and one had to entrain and detrain with significant caution. All that however is history. Most trains stop at Parasnath nowadays, including the might Howrah Rajdhani. The reason primarily being the growth in tourist traffic to Madhuban, right behind the Parasnath Hills. However, the 12273 Howrah New Delhi Duronto Express is exempt from all such halts. It cruises through Parasnath station with its Howrah WAP4 at 85 kmph and steadily accelerates through the numerous curves across the Chhota Nagpur Plateau. As we head towards Hazaribagh, we enjoy the final glimpses of the gigantic Parasnath Hills, the highest hill range in Jharkhand and the highest point of the Chhota Nagpur Plateau. The steady acceleration soon bears fruit and we tear through the Chhota Nagpur Plateau at 120 kmph. Towards the end of the video, we meet the 18625 Patna Hatia Intercity Express led by a Mughal Sarai WAP4 which crosses us at blistering speed. You could see me re-adjusting my grip on the door handle right before the two trains cross: I realized from the appearance of the Intercity that this would be one hell of a fast crossing and the strongest grip was warranted.
