(24 Oct 2018) France will wait for proof of who killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi before deciding whether to freeze arms sales to Saudi Arabia, a government spokesman said on Wednesday. Benjamin Griveaux said the facts of the case were "doubly grave" but "new elements" were still emerging as investigations by the Saudi and Turkish authorities continue. "As long as these facts are not corroborated by our intelligence services, we will withhold our response," he said. If Saudi responsbility is proven however, Griveaux added: "Then we will draw consequences from it and we will take sanctions. And I will tell you something, it would not be just about weapons." President Emmanuel Macron had declined to comment during a public appearance on Tuesday.
