ESA GlobBiomass Project studies internal structure of trees, says remote sensing expert

Cutting-edge technology used in the European Space Agency’s GlobBiomass Project can identify the structure of a tree and even the tree’s weight, says Martin Herold, Professor for Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing at Wageningen University. He spoke during the 3rd GlobBiomass Meeting at FAO Headquarters in Rome. The project brought together over 60 experts and used innovative technologies, such as satellite imaging, to map and analyze the world’s forests, both from an aerial view as well as inside the forests. The work contributes to meeting Sustainable Development Goal 15, which focuses on the sustainable management of forests.
