If the Baka aren't allowed to hunt what can they do? recorded december 2012 http://www.1heart.org http://www.gbine.com The Baka are being pushed out of their forest home. They have not been offered alternatives. Eco guards originally sponsored by WWF end up harrassing the Baka. Giving a group of young men power over others in a lawless area where the majority of the population is really poor has created many abuses. Now the head of WWF in Cameroon supports military training for eco guards. The organised poachers have money and so can pay off the eco guards. All their power is directed against subsistence hunters and a few chancers. The only just way is for environmentalists and organisations such as WWF to support the Baka as guardians of the forest. They should not be supporting corrupt systems that abuse the indigenous population.
