Five Accused Of Attempting To Defraud The Gov't Appeared Before Court

Farrah Haniff an employee of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services and four others accused of attempting to defraud the government of cash appeared before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Monday. Haniff was charged with authorising forged documents towards flood relief, stemming out of the October 19th flood which devasted parts of East and Central Trinidad. He was charged by the Fraud Squad some days ago. More than $81 Million in flood relief cheques have been distributed to citizens following the October floods. Officials at the Ministry of Social Development are now investigating how much of that money went to families in need and how much of it was siphoned.
