One of the distinguishing features of English Swordsmanship through the ages was the use of the hanging guard, or pendant guard.  This system of English Backsword uses a unique variant of this hanging guard known as True Guardant. 

Dating back to the Sixteenth century this system was first codified by a former soldier called George Silver and describes a series of bio-mechanical principles that allow the swordsman to maintain his own safety whilst defeating his opponent.
