Strange Sounding Thunder during Hurricane Sandy

Saw a storm coming on the radar and decided to check it out. Overall the storm sucked. I did however catch a rumble of thunder I havent ever heard before.. My camera is a Nikon D5100 with a stock microphone. The thunder sounded like a reverberating or vibrating noise followed by a bang, a rumble and another pronounced bang. This was from a sandy induced thunderstorm.
