Up and coming artist Zalvador debuts on Deersky’s Soundteller Records this week with ‘Boreal’. Hailing from Cali, Colombia John Nino aka Zalvador has been a DJ in his country for over 15 years. However, it wasn’t until 2016 when he decided to delve into music production. With his passions lying in deep house, progressive house and melodic techno, John honed his studio skills over the last two years, resulting in his first two productions which make up the much anticipated ‘Boreal’ EP.

The title selection ‘Boreal’ comes from a positive place and the almagnation of melodic techno and progressive house is certainly evident. Hopeful atmospheres sit atop a grinding, key changing groove as a bevy of modular twists delight the senses. Clustered claps come in waves while a simple arp drives momentum forward, ultimately peaking during an epic and beautifully crafted break.

The companion piece ‘Maia’ is quite a unique and quirky creation which also draws on a variety of influences. The spoken word vocal narrative has some housey roots while a bevy of tantalizing synth elements are of the melodic techno variety. It’s a compelling contrast which you wouldn’t think would work but it does and quite well at that. A tight rhythmic core carries the two intertwined narratives across it’s eight minute running time before a trail of tonal creativities further saturate your senses during the main break. There’s a great energy in Colombia at the moment, so much so that’s it’s becoming one of the planet’s most promising progressive house breeding grounds. Zalvador is the latest talent to arise and he’s delivered two tracks which are not only excellent but show even greater promise for the country’s burgeoning scene. Another great discovery from Deersky’s Soundteller Records who continue to support and nurture inspiring new talent.
