The Pontiff has come under fire for allowing four reactionary bishops back into the church who had been excommunicated for their opposition to a dialogue with other denominations and religions. One of the bishops has for years also outspokenly denied that the Holocaust occurred. Many Catholics responded to the Pope's decision with disappointment and unease. Members of the Old Catholic Church,a denomination that parted ways with the Holy See at the end of the 19th century,were particularly vocal about what they say is a disastrous signal that shows contempt for the victims of the Holocaust.
