There are few bikes that draw such affection and attention, but undeniably, one of them is the Honda Mini Trail 50 or more commonly known as the Honda Monkey. Originally a 49cc single-cylinder powered machine, the Mini Trail 50 swept the motorcycle markets across the globe.

Honda is attempting to tap into that same nostalgic mojo to foster a new batch of riders with the 2019 Honda Monkey. Outside of the styling, most motorcyclists will already be familiar with the Honda Monkey’s inner workings – as the popular Honda Grom has been used as the base, sharing all core components. 

At the heart of the 2019 Honda Monkey is the same 125cc single-cylinder motor that we’ve all come to know on love. It’s got enough pep to run about town and make quick work of short trips, while also keeping up with average city traffic. 

Equipped with the same frame and suspension, the 2019 Honda Monkey promises a smooth ride with enough suspenders to handle the open road. But, let’s be realistic – the Monkey is about pure fun – the nuts and bolts of the machine are less critical.
 
Tugging at our heartstrings is the classic Monkey styling, which Honda has recreated with near flawless execution. A plush old-school seat, the tear-drop gas tank, round headlight are a few of the standout features from the Grom-gone-retro Monkey bike.

Kelly Callan jumped in a helicopter and made the quick hop from Long Beach, California to Avalon on Catalina Island where she spent a full day getting reacquainted with the Honda’s legendary Monkey.
